Thanks to your help, we raised thousands for local charities with our weekly charity quiz in Falmouth throughout 2023.
At the start of the year, we chose one local or national charity per month to receive the donations from our weekly Sunday quizzes.
In 2023, beneficiaries included mental health charities such as Man Down Cornwall, surf therapy charity, The Wave Project and community organisations such as West Cornwall Search and Rescue and Falmouth Community Youth Football Club.
December saw the highest donation total of the year of £645, raised for the nationally recognised charity Crisis, who support people experiencing homelessness throughout the UK. This amount was raised through both our weekly pub quiz donations over the month, as well on our annual Christmas Eve fundraising event, where locals gather to enjoy the sounds of shanty songs and locally made Cornish pasties.
Alongside receiving the donations for that month, throughout the year we also invited the charities’ spokespeople to the quizes to give a talk about their cause, highlighting what your generous donations would support.
Our Manager, Hannah, shared:
“We’d like to thank everyone who has donated and supported our chosen charities at our quizzes this year. We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of quiz goers and we hope to be able to continue supporting deserving charities in 2024”
This is the fourth year that we’ve been supporting local charities with our quizzes – a commitment we intend to continue in 2024.
Our team are no strangers to charitable giving though. In August, our Pink Wig event for breast cancer awareness raised over £2,031. And in the past, our team have also volunteered their time at local beach cleans and helping to clear the Greenbank community gardens. The pub also regularly host community events such as She Swims, a local outdoor swimming group for women.
Pub quiz fan? The Working Boat crew host our quiz every Sunday from 7.30pm, with plenty of prizes to be won (including a generous bar tab). Our pub quizzes are free to enter but if you’d like to put an optional donation in our pot, we will be collecting for our chosen charities each month.
