Our Cornish Summer Bucket List

Long days, salty air, and that unmistakable feeling that summer has finally arrived. Whether you’re local to Cornwall or visiting for a well-earned getaway, there’s no shortage of ways to make the most of the season.
From beach days and coastal adventures to ice creams in the sunshine and pints by the harbour, here’s our Cornish Summer Bucket List – and we challenge you to tick off as many as possible before autumn arrives.
SPEND A DAY AT THE BEACH
No Cornish summer is complete without a day on the sand. Pack up a picnic, grab a good book, and head for Gyllyngvase Beach, one of Falmouth’s most popular stretches of golden sand. Spend the day swimming in the sea, hunting for shells, soaking up the sunshine and embracing the slower pace of life that summer brings. Seeking somewhere a little quieter? Find your way to Swanpool, Maenporth, or Grebe Beach on the Helford for a little more peace and quiet.

SEE A SHOW AT THE MINACK THEATRE
Carved into the cliffs high above Porthcurno Bay, the Minack Theatre has to be one of the most spectacular places to watch a performance anywhere in the world. With the Atlantic Ocean providing the backdrop and the white sands of Porthcurno Beach waiting below, it’s an experience that feels uniquely Cornish.

TRY KAYAKING OR PADDLEBOARDING
Summer is the perfect time to get out on the water. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned paddler, Blu Paddle offers kayak and paddleboard adventures right here in Falmouth. Explore hidden corners of the coastline, discover secluded beaches and see the harbour from a whole new perspective.

GO SNORKELLING
You don’t need to travel abroad to discover incredible marine life. Cornwall’s clear waters are home to an array of underwater wonders, and a boat trip with Falmouth Bay Tailored Tours can help you uncover some of the area’s best snorkelling spots. Keep your eyes peeled for colourful fish, the odd octopus, and perhaps even a curious seal.

WALK A STRETCH OF THE SOUTH WEST COAST PATH
Stretching for hundreds of miles around the Cornish coastline, the South West Coast Path offers some of the most breathtaking views in the country. One of our favourite local sections runs between Maenporth and Swanpool, where dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and endless sea views reward every step.

TREAT YOURSELF TO AN ICE CREAM
When the sun shines, there’s only one thing for it. Head into town and pick up a scoop (or three) from Ciuri Ciuri on Church Street. Their handmade Italian gelato comes in an ever-changing range of flavours and is best enjoyed while wandering Falmouth’s bustling streets.
CATCH A CORNISH SUNSET
Summer evenings were made for slowing down. Head to the sweeping sands of Porthowan Beach and settle in as the sky transforms from gold to pink to deep indigo. With dramatic cliffs framing the coastline and the Atlantic stretching endlessly ahead, it’s one of Cornwall’s most spectacular spots to watch the day draw to a close.

HOP ON A FERRY
One of the best ways to experience Falmouth is from the water. Step aboard a ferry with Fal River and enjoy a leisurely journey across the Fal Estuary, taking in some of Cornwall’s most beautiful scenery along the way. Why not spend an afternoon exploring the charming waterside village of St Mawes before hopping back on board for the return trip?

ENJOY FISH AND CHIPS BY THE HARBOUR
Simple pleasures are often the best. Pick up a portion of award-winning fish and chips from Harbour Lights and find a spot overlooking the water. Crisp batter, fresh Cornish fish and harbour views make for a winning combination, especially on a sunny summer’s day.

FINISH WITH THE PERFECT PINT AT THE WORKING BOAT
After a summer spent exploring, adventuring and making memories, there’s no better way to round off the day than with a well-earned pint in the sunshine.
Pull up a seat on our quay, watch the boats come and go, and raise a glass to summer on the harbour’s edge.
We’ll see you at the bar.
